Course Description

Autism and PDD are puzzling disabilties, but not as difficult to work with as most people think.

This course is taught by a Pediatric Behavioral Specialist with nearly 30 years experience working with children and their families, specializing in Autism, PDD, and Reactive Attachment Disorder.

The course offers:

  • Information about the suspected causes of Autism
  • Types of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder
  • Behavioral symptoms of Autism and the meaning behind the behavior
  • Strategies for working with children with Autism
  • New strategies based on a Brain-Based Approach
Work at your own pace. Receive individualized help from the instructor on your specific situation. Even if you have never taken an online course or do not have college experience, you can master the material in this course. It is written in user-friendly format and easy to understand terms.

Upon completion of the course, you can earn certificates of attendance, or academic excellence or achievement, depending on how well you do.

The course is divided into 5 lessons, each with assignments, where you will guided in exploring different intervention strategies through other resources. There is also a short 10 point quiz assigned to each lesson, but don't worry, the quizzes are for learning purposes. You can retake the quizzes as many times as you like until you master the material. The final requirement is a 30 point Final Exam.


Autism: Behavioral Strategies is taught by an instructor who has specialized in the treatment of Autism and PDD for over 15 years. In this course you will learn: current research on the suspected causes of Autism and PDD; a working knowledge of the various forms of PDD or Autism and the symptoms that separate one form of Autism from another; information on current practice in the treatment of educating and socialing children with Autism or PDD and information on the instructor's "preferred" method of working with children with Autism or PDD with specific strategies to address common behavioral or educational problems associated with Autism or PDD.

What is the difference between Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) and Autism?? Take the course and find out! Students will: 1) Learn about the suspected causes of Autism. 2) Understand stereotypical behavior associated with Autism or one of the other Pervasive Developmental Disorders. 3)Gain understanding of behavior management and teaching strategies to help children with Autism learn.


This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this online course with or without CEU documentation. An online and hard-copy Certificate of Course Completion displaying your coursework and CEUs earned is included with the CEU Option. Course Lessons

  1. Lesson 1: Suspected Causes of Autism and Symptoms - Learn about the various types of Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) and Autism, along with symptoms, and suspected causes.
  2. Lesson 2: Tips for Working With Specific Symptoms - Lesson 2 describes some of the stereotypical behaviors associated with Autism or various forms of PDD, and offers strategies for working with those behaviors.
  3. Lesson 3: Interventions - Lesson 3 provides information on interventions being used today in order to eliminate or lessen symptoms of Autism. These include sensory integration, biological intervention, and the ABA model.
  4. Lesson 4: A Different Model for Approaching Autism - Lesson 4 details the type of intervention that I use with children with Autism, including the 8 top strategies I find to be the most helpful.
  5. Lesson 5: DAP & Specific Situation Strategies - Lesson 5 offers tips on Developmentally Appropriate Practices, as well as several resources that offer information on Autism and other forms of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD).
